Four Fabulous Knee Bobbing Baby Games

Our baby loves knee bobbing games! They were one of the first activities we could do with baby to get a little giggle. I've listed some of our favorites below along with some motions in parentheses. If you're doing these games with a baby who can't sit on their own yet make sure they are very supported. At the start of each of these songs, you will want to put baby on your knees facing you.

1. Ride-o

This song can be done at a slower pace which is nicer for the younger babies. It's very gentle and sweet.

Lyrics
Ride-o, ride-o, ride-o (bounce baby on knees facing you)
Which way shall we ride-o?
To the countryside-o (bounce your knees and lean baby to your left)
To find a pretty bride-o (bounce your knees and lean baby to your right)
Ride-o, ride-o, ride-o (while bouncing your knees lean baby to your left then your right and repeat)
Clip-clop, clip-clop,clip-clop, clip-clop (back to normal bouncing)

2. Ride the Horsey

This rhyme is a classic and one I remember from when I was little! This is better suited for bigger babies who have a little more balance.

Lyrics
Ride the horsey, ride the horsey (bounce baby on knees)
All the way to town
Ride the horsey, ride the horsey
Don't fall down! (while holding on to baby, spread knees apart so baby falls through legs, you can also dip baby backward if baby is up for it)

3. This is the Way the Ladies Ride

I also remember this one from my childhood and loving it!

Lyrics
(Sit baby on your knees facing you, start with a slow knee bounce for ladies and increase speed as go from ladies to boys to men)

This is the way the ladies ride
The ladies ride, the ladies ride
This is the way the ladies ride all the way to town

This the way the boys ride
The boys ride, the boys ride
This is the way the boys ride all the way to town

This is the way the men ride
The mend ride, the men ride
This is the way the men ride all the way to town

4. Diddlety, Diddlety, Dumpty

I learned this song recently when my little and I went to a baby music class together.

Lyrics
Diddlety, diddlety, dumpty (bounce baby on your knees)
The cat ran up the plum tree. (walk two fingers up baby's arm)
It took half the town (walk two fingers down baby's other arm)
To bring her back down
Diddlety, diddlety, dumpty (bounce baby on your knees again)

Does your child enjoy knee bobbing games? Which ones are their favorites? Would love to hear from you!
